Con woman’s home to be auctioned off
A local state-owned developer has clawed back more than 14 million yuan (US$2 million) from a woman who cheated it out of over 30 million yuan in relocation allowances, Qingpu District People’s Procuratorate said yesterday.
The woman’s family has agreed to return the remainder when her house is auctioned.
Chen was given 14 and a half years for fraud and fined 300,000 yuan after claiming more than 30 million yuan in demolition and relocation fees last year and losing an appeal this February. Owner of two companies, Chen colluded with the chief accountant of an intermediary company, to fake land payments in 2011. Her accomplice got five years and was fined 30,000 yuan.
In July, prosecutors found there was still some 29 million yuan outstanding. Chen’s family said the money was mainly invested in real estate or had been used for repaying her debts. She bought a 600-square-meter house in 2014.
The procuratorate suggested the court auction off the house and ask the family to return the money. So far 14 million yuan has been received.
