Concept cars at SAIC-GM Pavilion deemed viable

THE SAIC-GM Pavilion that displays next generation of emission-free, intelligent vehicles has been selected for having the biggest influence on future city life.

Researchers of East China Normal University, urbanization experts and other scientists evaluated the future transportation system exhibited in the pavilion and believed it is viable.

"We will also evaluate exhibits in other pavilions to judge their influence on people's life," said Lin Tuo, head of the evaluation team.

Future vehicles can relieve cities of traffic congestions as shown in the only automobile pavilion in the Expo. These intelligent, computer-driven vehicles can communicate with each other to avoid collision and talk with roads to choose the best route.

The pavilion, which looks like a huge silver bowl on the Puxi side of the Huangpu River, shows a four-dimensional film with seats moving according to actions in the film. The concept vehicles as portrayed in the 12-minute film are all on display in the pavilion.
