THE Democratic Republic of Congo celebrates its National Pavilion Day today with fabulous dance performances in the Joint Africa Pavilion.
Themed "More Harmonious and Prosperous City, More Treasures," the pavilion presents its vast mineral resources - it's famous for diamonds and rare minerals for electronics - and its goals of urban development in balance with nature.
The main area is arranged around a recreated mine - symbol of its wealth - rich in color and abstract in dimensions.
It features dramatic pictures of the natural wealth and splendor of the nation. Photographs and artifacts also depict its rich history, including the Belgian colonial period of exploitation and conflict.
The pavilion recreates living environments and demonstrates numerous customs and varied cultures.
A section on development looks to the future and displays the best examples of urban development.
