Consulate General of Israel releases film to thank Shanghai for protecting 20,000 Jews during WWII

The Consulate General of Israel in Shanghai today issued a short film named "Thank You Shanghai" to appreciate the city’s protection of over 20,000 Jewish refugees during the World War II.
The 60-second-long film initially unveiled at the Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum will be broadcasted on many public screens across the city including the Bund area from yesterday. It was filmed in several Israeli cities early this year with Israelis saying thank you to Shanghai.
"It is here, in Shanghai, where Jewish refugees could find shelter from the Nazi regime. It was here, in Shanghai, where Jewish refugees were received in open arms by the Chinese people. It is only logical that we should express our gratitude," Arnon Perlman, the consul General of Israel in Shanghai, who took charge of the film making said emotionally at the unveiling ceremony for the film yesterday.
A dozen of interviewees including former Jewish refugees, scientists, students, artists and children hold signs saying "Thank You" in one of three languages: Chinese, Hebrew and English. The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also expresses his gratitude in the film.
"We are eternally grateful and we will never forget, thank you," Netanyahu said at the end of the film.
About 23,000 Jews who fled Nazi occupied Europe found shelter in Shanghai during the war.
