Container ship stranded off Shanghai, crew rescued
SHANGHAI border police said a foreign container vessel tilted and got stranded at the mouth of the Yangtze River around 6pm yesterday.
Its 12 crew members from Germany, Ukraine, Romania, Myanmar and the Philippines were rescued amid high winds. No one was injured in the mishap, police said today.
The ship was still stuck in the shallow waters of the Yangtze estuary as of this noon and the local maritime department is working to set it afloat again.
Maritime officials said strong winds may have caused the crew to lose control of the anchor and the ship began to tilt.
The unloaded ship was coming to Shanghai from South Korea.
