A local company was ordered to pay 5,500 yuan (US$864) for using a copyrighted picture on its website, which belongs to Getty Images China, a provider of imagery and film, the Pudong New Area People's Court said yesterday. The protected picture, in which "Huabiao," a traditional Chinese ornamental pillar, stood at Tian'anmen Square in Beijing, was found widely downloaded for free from websites, the court said. Getty Images China has filed 18 lawsuits over copyright infringement this year. It has won all 11 settled so far.
