Couple catches armed burglar red-handed

A MAN who threatened a couple with scissors when he tried to rob their villa has been jailed for seven years and fined 14,000 yuan (US$2,050), today's Oriental Morning Post reported.

The burglar wore a mask before sneaking into a villa in Zhaoxiang Town, Qingpu District, on September 22 last year, Qingpu District People's Court said.

But he met the house owners, who were surfing online in the study. He tried to threaten them with his scissors but they jumped on him, the court heard.

The couple's 70-year-old mother joined the fight and called police.
