Crackdown on computer repair rights
COMPUTER service companies will be forbidden to copy or release information from customers' hard discs when they are being repaired, according to one of seven sample contracts released by the Shanghai Industry and Commerce Administration yesterday.
The seven sample contracts cover computer repairs, furniture removals, air-conditioning cleaning, gas supplies and heating transactions.
The security of hard discs grabbed public attention after a sex photo scandal involving Chinese-Canadian actor-singer Edison Chen and eight Hong Kong stars early last year.
Disputes caused by computer repairs are on the increase with most computer repair contracts containing no clear rights or obligations.
