Customs offers door-to-door service to Expo participants

SHANGHAI Customs will provide speedy and efficient service to guarantee smooth clearance of Expo-related materials to be shipped from China, Customs officials pledged today.

Customs workers yesterday went to some pavilions to check valuable exhibits before packing. In the France Pavilion, they examined exhibits worth more than 500 million euros, including paintings by Vincent van Gogh and Francois Millet and a sculpture by Auguste Rodin. The exhibits are to be flown back to Paris today.

The Customer workers also went to the Egypt Pavilion to check eight cultural relics last night before they were packaged.

For the convenience of Expo participants, Customs workers will do the clearance in the pavilions, said Wang Chenwei, deputy director of the Customs Supervision and Service Center in the Expo site.

He said a high tide of Expo-related goods is coming. All Expo materials that were allowed temporarily entry had to be shipped back by May 31, 2011.
