Customs witnesses record rush

A RECORD 190,471 people went through Shanghai customs on Monday 鈥 the result of a combination of Typhoon Lekima and the annual summer rush, immigration authorities said yesterday.

The number beat the record set on February 11, which was the first day after the Spring Festival holiday, when over 170,000 went through.

The number is also 12 percent up from the peak day in 2018, according to the authorities.

A total of 143,320 people went through customs at airports.

And at the city鈥檚 international cruise liner port, about 35,550 tourists arrived on three cruise liners 鈥 the MSC Splendida, the Majestic Princess and the Spectrum of the Seas 鈥 that were scheduled to dock last weekend but were turned away due to the typhoon, the heaviest in recent years.
