DVD pirates had 128,000 discs
PIRATE DVD dealers pleaded guilty to trading in 128,000 discs at the Pudong New Area People's Court yesterday.
Prosecutors told how Xu Ruilin, 50, and his wife Sheng Yuyan, 35, began selling pirated DVDs in October 2009, storing discs in an apartment on Chengshan Road in the Pudong New Area.
Xu shared the apartment with a third suspect, Hua Xinyan, who ran her own business, the court heard.
The couple pleaded guilty and said they earned about 20,000 yuan (US$3,170) from the enterprise.
Xu said he bought a standard DVD copy for 5.5 yuan and sold it at 6 yuan. He paid 15 yuan for a Blue-ray DVD copy, and sold it for 20 yuan to street vendors and residents.
No verdict was announced.
