Dating site con artist robs women

A con man was charged with cheating 139,000 yuan (US$21,819) out of two women, prosecutors said yesterday.

Zuo Feng, 28, registered at a popular dating website with false information, claiming he graduated from Tsinghua University and was a top official of a large state-owned company, prosecutors said.

Zuo said he targeted women in their 30s as they would be richer than younger women after years of work.

"Women who choose blind dating usually look up men's information on the Internet. It is a coincidence that an official and I have the same name, and I just took advantage," Zuo said.

He persuaded the two victims to invest a total of 139,000 yuan in buying initial shares and promised them high-profit returns.

But it was just a fraud, Zuo told prosecutors.

Both the victims had sex with Zuo soon after they started the relationship and one of them was pregnant when she found that she had been taken in.
