Decaying body of recluse found in Zhabei apartment

THE decaying body of a local man who is believed to have committed suicide was found yesterday in the Zhabei district apartment where he lived alone.
Neighbors suspected that something was wrong when they smelled a strong stench emanating from his Baoting Road apartment and nobody answered when they knocked on the door.
It was only when firefighters came at around 9am that the dead body, already decayed, was found.
An official from the neighborhood committee said that they had talked to the man last week, trying to persuade him to remove goods he stored in the doorway for safety concerns.
But he did not follow their advice and firefighters had to use ladders to enter his home as the entrance was blocked.
According to the neighbors, the man, in his 30s, lived with his father in the apartment, but his father passed away about one or two years ago.
After that, he barely talked to others, and wreathes laid to commemorate his father were still displayed outside his apartment.
