Designs of Donghua University students using Swarovski crystals on diplay
CREATIVE designs decorated with Swarovski crystals by Donghua University students were displayed at Lane Crawford Shanghai on Huaihai Road today under a cooperation program between Donghua and Swarovski.
A total of eight creative student works, from clothes to shoes, were selected from a competition at the university with the theme of gifts to celebrate Christmas, which is coming up next month.
Luan Yanwen and Gu Liwen, both PhD students at the university, designed a special display dress made of cardboard and decorated with smoky topaz crystals. Luan said they were inspired by populus diversifolia, commonly known as the Euphrates poplar, a tree living in the desert that is very strong and a symbol of everlasting spirits.
"The tree is a gift from God to deserts and we think it fits the theme of gifts very well," Luan said.
Donghua University has been working with Swarovski for seven years. More than 1,000 students have attended classes and used crystals to make creative designs at a center jointly operated by Swarovski and Donghua University.
