Disposable heat pads can burn

EXPERTS are warning consumers to be cautious in using disposable heating pads because they can cause skin burns.

The products have become popular among locals. Young women who crave light dresses or short skirts in the winter can often use some warmth from the one-time heat generators that are easy to wear.

The pads start to produce hours of heat once their covers are peeled off. Chemical reagents such as catalyzed iron powders are prepared in separate compartments and when the user squeezes the pad, they break and mix, generating the heat.

The warmth may be mild in temperature but long-time contact may cause skin burns. Some skin doctors confirmed that even though the heat from the pads was not extremely high, long-time close contact could cause light burns.
