Districts witness high precipitation as city on orange alert for downpour
Heavy rainfalls with possible thunder and lightning are still making their way to the city today when local weather bureau upgraded its yellow rain storm alert to an orange one this morning, expecting some brief heavy precipitation falling before noon, forecasters said.
The daytime accumulated rainfall in most areas are forecast to be between 40 to 70 millimeters. Some districts are expected to witness a precipitation of over 100 millimeters. The morning hourly rainfall in part areas can hit a high of up to 50 millimeters.
By 8am, the largest rainfall was found in Malu, Jiading District with a reading of 244 millimeters, followed by Baoshan District and the Pudong New Area which respectively saw a rainfall of 161 and 125 millimeters. The precipitation in these areas all fit into a level of heavy storm. Benchmark downtown Xujiahui weather station recorded a rainfall of 92 millimeters.
