Driverless trains next year on Metro Line 10

SHANGHAI'S Metro Line 10 will be automatically operated with no drivers aboard within a year after it opens for trial service in mid-April.

This signals China can develop its own technology for automatic subways along with developed countries such as France and Singapore, today's Shanghai Morning Post reported.

Construction of the line has been completed and testing is under way. Trial runs are expected to start in mid-April, a month behind schedule.

Line 10 runs 36 kilometers from New Jiangwan City area in northeast Yangpu District to Hongqiao Airport in the city's west, with 31 stations.

It will stop at tourist attractions such as Yuyuan Garden and major residential communities including the Wujiaochang area.
