Drivers flee after trucks pull off overhead wires
SHANGHAI police are hunting for the drivers of three flat trailers with over-height cargoes that pulled down two electricity poles, a traffic light pole and trolley bus wires on downtown Henan Road early this morning, xinmin.cn reported.
The accident happened around 5am when tower cranes mounted on the flat trailers caught overhead electric wires for trolley buses on Henan Road near Jinling Road.
A witness surnamed Han told xinmin.cn that the crane brackets pulled down the wires and two attached poles and left broke wires dangling in the air.
Han said a minus bus was hit by a falling pole and its roof was squashed.
The accident caused traffic jams in nearby roads as police cordoned off the site. Eight bus lines had to change routes during the morning rush hour.
