Driving license scam busted
SHANGHAI police have detained two suspects for using fake driving licenses for point deduction and suspensions.
The fake licenses were ordered on the Internet with the suspects only having to provide their pictures which were stuck on the licenses, according to the police investigation.
They will be detained for 15 days.
Police said that one suspect, surnamed Gao, even "showed up for three different drivers in one day as he went to the traffic police to accept the license suspension punishment."
The fake licenses had different names and addresses while only the mug shots belonged to Gao, police said.
Gao said he would charge 1,000 yuan for his illegal activity. He was caught on July 4 in Changning District when he showed up for the third time.
The second suspect, surnamed Wu, who used a similar trick, did not even have a license himself, police said.
Police said the license information could be real even though the license itself was fake. Officers admitted they should have verified the pictures with the licenses on their computers.
