Driving school instructor sets bad example
FOUR men were detained for alleged drunk driving and assaulting police officers during a roadside check, Baoshan District police said yesterday
They were a driving school coach and his three students, police said. The coach would be detained for 15 days and fined 2,000 yuan while the rest would be held in short-term detentions.
The drama took place around 9pm on March 3 when the coach was trying to crash through a checkpoint, district police said.
After the car was stopped, the coach was asked to take an alcohol breath test and the three men began to scuffle with the officers. They were subdued by arriving police back-up and were sent to a hospital for blood test, which showed their blood alcohol level was at 1.4 mg/ml, almost double the legal limit.
It turned out that the 31-year-old coach just had dinner with his students and consumed a lot of liquor. Police said the coach must take a course on traffic rules before being allowed to drive again.
The district police said driving school cars violating the traffic law were not uncommon. Last year they handled 15 such cases, seven involved drunk driving.
