Drug-taking suspect misses plane

AN air traveler, suspected of taking drugs, missed his flight after falling asleep at Pudong International Airport today.

The traveler, surnamed Xu, from Taiwan, went missing in the airport for about five hours, said police based at the airport.

The police first received a report at 9:45am, from a flight heading to Hong Kong, that a passenger had not shown up and boarding time was about to end. This was despite the fact the passenger had already gone through customs.

When the plane departed at 10:30am, airline staff had still not found the passenger.

The police began a search of the airport after they failed to reach the passenger by phone.

By 3pm the police found a man sleeping on a bench near a boarding gate.

The man was identified as the missing passenger but was he talking incoherently and unable to answer questions, officers said.

Police later found needle holes in both of his arms. Xu was held for further inquiry.
