Drunk-driving groom detained over death of pedestrian

CITY police said they had detained a man who caused a hit-and-run accident killing one pedestrian in the city's Pudong New Area while driving under the influence of alcohol.
The man surnamed Shao just got married and had celebrated his wedding before the accident on October 5, police said.
The hit-and-run happened around 7:43pm at Nantuan Highway and Sanxuan Highway when Shao's Buick business car hit the victim surnamed Xu.
Shao confessed that he had a feast with some friends that night, during which he drank a bottle of beer and some liquor. He and his friends later decided to sing karaoke after the meal and had the accident on their way, police said.
