Drunken quarrel leads to stab death

A 43-YEAR-OLD man was stabbed to death early yesterday morning by a drinking companion, and police soon caught the suspect.

The victim surnamed Chu from Anhui Province was stabbed several times in the back and waist and was pronounced dead after the paramedics arrived.

The suspect surnamed Ma, also from Anhui, fled the scene. Police found him in his apartment two hours after the crime was reported.

"I stabbed him in a fluster and I don't even remember what part of him I stabbed," Ma told police yesterday afternoon.

Putuo District police said the two got into a quarrel at about 1am while drinking in a restaurant on Xinhui Road with Chu's wife and another two townsmen. The two were separated by the townsmen and left the restaurant.

Probably being drunk, Ma went home, grabbed a fruit knife and rushed to Chu's home blocks away.

Shouting he wanted to kill Chu, Ma took out the knife and severely stabbed Chu, the victim's wife said.
