Dubai implementing visa-on-arrival policy for Chinese

DUBAI will implement a visa-on-arrival policy towards Chinese passport holders very soon and a Chinese training program has also been launched to attract more Chinese tourists, tourism officials from Dubai said over the weekend in Shanghai.

The process on easier visa policy for Chinese is underway and details are scheduled to be announced within this year, according to Hamad M Bin Mejren, senior vice president of Dubai Events and Convention Bureau.

"We expect big growth of Chinese tourists coming to Dubai with the launch of the visa-on-arrival policy," he said.

In addition, Dubai is also conducting a Chinese training program among local tour guides to better serve Chinese tourists, and the training courses will be expanded to the whole tourism industry in the city, said Mejren.

Dubai tourism authorities have also signed a strategic cooperation agreement with China UnionPay, enabling Chinese tourists to purchase via UnionPay when booking tickets to scenic spots and events in Dubai online.

Last year, about 450,000 Chinese tourists visited Dubai, an increase of 29 percent from a year earlier, ranking China in the top 10 source markets of Dubai for the first time.

In the first eight months of this year, there was also a 13 percent increase of Chinese tourists to Dubai from the same period last year.

Mejren said Dubai has kept offering new items with the opening of IMG Worlds of Adventure, the world's largest indoor theme park, recently.

His visit is during the Dubai Week in China, which opened on Thursday in Shanghai.
