STRONGLY scented wintersweet is blooming in the city, a month ahead of schedule and before this year's leaves have even fallen.
Despite the current cold snap, the relatively warm weather has brought forward the flowering season of the shrub, which goes by the botanical name Chimonanthus. Wintersweet is already in flower in several city parks, such as the Shanghai Botanical Garden and the Guyi Garden, weeks ahead of its usual time.
