Elite science program launched

SHANGHAI Jiao Tong University announced a special postgraduate program yesterday to attract and cultivate top-notch talents in science and technology.
The Zhiyuan Honorary Program will recruit 100 undergraduates every year to pursue master's and doctoral degrees continuously.
Students admitted to the program will be guided by two tutors, instead of one in traditional postgraduate programs.
One of the tutors will be outstanding teachers at Jiao Tong, while the other will be renowned professors or scientists from prestigious universities in the world or chief engineers or other industrial elites.
The tutors will guide the students to research on pioneering and innovative areas to serve real development strategies in China.
The university will provide scholarships for students in the program to help them devote into study and research. It will also sponsor their study in international institutions and companies.
They will be assessed regularly during the process and anyone failed to meet the requirements will be eliminated.
The program will start with sciences, engineering and medical areas and expand to all other majors in the following three years.
