Eminent views from around the world
ONE hundred eminent people from all over the world are to contribute their views on the World Expo theme - "Better City, Better Life" - every day from Thursday, which marks the 100-day countdown to the opening ceremony.
The 100 include politicians, scientists, philosophers and entertainers.
Their remarks will be shared with Shanghai Daily readers in a new column "Expo Tributes from 100 Eminent Voices" from Thursday.
The first piece is from Anna Kajumulo Tibaijuk, an Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and executive director of the United Nations Human Settlements Program.
Others sharing their views will include Singapore Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew, ex-Chancellor of Germany Gerhard Schroeder, former United States Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, Director-General of the World Health Organization Margaret Chan Fung Fu-chun, Nobel Prize winners Samuel Chao Chung Ting and Tsung-Dao Lee, Hong Kong actor Jackie Chan, basketball player Yao Ming and Olympic champion hurdler Liu Xiang.
Their voices will also be heard on radio and television and online as Radio and Television Shanghai, Shanghai Daily and Eastday.com are taking part in the event organized by the Information Office of Shanghai Municipal Government.
