Europe soccer legends coming
A DREAM team of European soccer legends will be coming to the World Expo.
Michel Platini, the French former star player and now president of the Union of European Football Associations, will bring an all-star team with names like Paolo Maldini, Luis Figo, and Zinedine Zidane.
They will play a friendship game against veteran Chinese players at the Expo's Culture Center on September 18. The game will be free to all visitors at the Expo site, who will have the opportunity to win signed gifts from these legends.
Serge Abou, the European Union's ambassador to China, announced the appearances yesterday as he unveiled the exhibitions and cultural events of the European Commission in the Belgium-EU Pavilion. Other event highlights will include a European Cinema Festival from June 12 to 20, European Opera Festival on September 11 and 12, and a European Night of Contemporary Arts.
The pavilion's design is based on the idea of the brain cell to represent the theme of "Intelligent Europe."
The permanent exhibition is a 15-minute walk in four parts: Building Europe, Open Europe, Green Europe and Living Europe.
One lucky Chinese resident will win two round-trip tickets from Beijing, Shanghai or Guangzhou to any European city with Air France. More details can be found on www.shanghaiexpo.eu.
