Exec on trial for taking bribes
A SENIOR executive of a large-scale state-owned company went on trial yesterday for allegedly accepting 390,000 yuan (US$57,100) in bribes after taking advantage of his position to make huge profits for a friend's company.
Yang Hongguang, 57, admitted having accepted the bribes as an official with Beijng-based Gernertec International Corp. But he told the hearing at the Shanghai No. 1 Intermediate People's Court that he didn't discuss the bribes beforehand. Yang argued the terms were a normal transaction between the two companies. The court didn't announce the verdict yesterday.
