Exhibition of azaleas to open at Shanghai Binjiang Forest Park

An azalea exhibition, featuring 100-year-old azalea trees and rare green azaleas, will open at the Shanghai Binjiang Forest Park in Pudong New Area tomorrow.

Over 5,500 azalea trees of various colors are in full bloom at the park’s azalea garden. There are 60 azalea bonsai and 40,000 square meters of other flowers such as camellia, cornflowers and cherry.

For the first time, about 10 azalea trees that are 100 years old and brought from the Dabieshan mountains on the border of Hubei, Henan and Anhui provinces three years ago are being exhibited after getting used to Shanghai’s soil and climate conditions.

Among others, about 450 green azaleas will also be on display.

The park boasts the largest azalea garden in East China.

The 2016 Shanghai azalea exhibition will run through May 10.

The park operator said that this year’s azaleas blossomed earlier than usual because of the warm and wet weather.
