Expired cylinders of gas create risk

Law enforcement officials are looking into an illegal trade network of inferior gas cylinders, which poses big risks to the safety of nearby residents and companies.

Unauthorized liquefied petroleum gas suppliers were found growing in the suburbs. The illegal gas suppliers usually fill expired steel cylinders with liquefied gas, which is illegal, said the Xinmin Evening News.

Illegal sales and deliveries were often seen in the city's suburban areas, with most of the clients being small restaurants, the report said.

The newspaper interviewed several restaurants in Zhoupu Town of the Pudong New Area and found the demand for liquefied gas was huge.

"You don't want to buy the gas from the authorized suppliers; their prices are more expensive," said an illegal vender in town. "I got a number. You call it and the gas will be delivered to your place in 20 minutes."

More than 18,000 inferior cylinders have been seized.
