Expo bosses chill out visitors

WORLD Expo organizers are fighting the heatwave by adding more water fountains, drink sales points and extra volunteers to help visitors suffering from heatstroke.

A total of 356 visitors received treatment at the five medical stations in the Expo site today.

Among them, 78 visitors suffered from heatstroke as temperatures soared to 37.4 degree Celsius.

To satisfy visitors' thirst, Expo organizers are placing more drinking water facilities inside the pavilions.

Four have been added at the rest areas inside the China Pavilion on its 10th and 12th floors, while two more will be installed at the pavilion's waiting area, according to officials.

In the Puxi side of the Expo site, three new drinking water fountains will be installed, bringing the total to 108.

Meanwhile, Expo volunteers have been given a new mission: to keep an eye on the enthusiastic visitors who line up for pavilions under the sun's heat.

The volunteers will attend to those suffering heatstroke and send them to medical stations at once.

As more visitors may enjoy the Expo during the cooler evenings, organizers will sell evening tickets until 8:50pm.
