Expo float at US Tournament of Roses

A FLOAT featuring Shanghai's World Expo will join the annual United States Pasadena Tournament of Roses to celebrate the New Year.

More than 100 Chinese volunteers studying and living in the US are helping decorate the 16.7-meter-long, 5.5-meter-wide float at a cost of US$350,000, today's Oriental Morning Post reported.

Overseas Chinese groups the Committee of 100 and the Roundtable of Southern California Chinese American Organizations donated the cost.

The float will feature Shanghai's landmarks such as the Oriental Pearl TV Tower and Jinmao Tower as well as icons of the Expo including mascot Haibao and the Chinese national pavilion.

A total of 98 people will perform on the float, which will be decorated with 100,000 flowers.
