Expo franchise stores to hit 4,000

SHANGHAI is expected to have 4,000 sales outlets selling World Expo franchised products by the end of this month, officials said.

With the French retailer giant Carrefour starting to sell licensed products in all of its 19 local stores yesterday, a total of 170 retailers are now selling franchised products, including Wal-Mart, FamilyMart, Lianhua and Hualian Supermarket, according to the office.

The sales of franchised products have surpassed 8 billion yuan (US$1.17 billion), said Xin Juehui, sales management director of franchised products. Over the length of the Expo, officials are hoping for sales to hit 20 billion yuan.

Some 5,000 kinds of franchised products are now for sale, officials said. Another 5,000 kinds of merchandise, such as food and drinks, will be added to the franchised products list.
