Expo shops, pavilions start discount sales

AS the Expo has just over 20 days left to run, souvenir stores across the Expo site and some foreign pavilions have begun offering discounts and gifts to attract more customers.

At the flagship souvenir store, near the China Pavilion, many products are shown next to hand-written tags instead of printed labels, and of course they are cheaper than before. A key ring, which was once priced at 28 yuan (US$4.20) each, now is sold at 50 yuan for three.

A worker at the store told Shanghai Daily that business was not good for the past three to four days, and they're offering discounts and gifts to promote their sales. Customers can usually get one Expo souvenir when purchasing some other products.

In addition, some foreign pavilions, such as the Thailand Pavilion, the Laos Pavilion and the Myanmar Pavilion, are offering 20 to 30 percent discounts for their souvenirs and special products. A bamboo musical instrument sold at the Vietnam Pavilion was 20 yuan cheaper than the original 80 yuan.

Some pavilions, seeing the six-month event drawing near to the end, have already stopped shipping in new stocks, said some Expo participants.
