Expo topic: Science education
REFORMING score-oriented evaluations, improving teacher quality and promoting interest groups that go beyond the limitations of class and grade are key to cultivating innovation and improving science and technology education.
That was the key message of local teachers at a forum during the International Youth Science and Technology Expo in Shanghai yesterday.
Shanghai education authorities have long called for raising students' science knowledge and innovative capability, "but all these remain slogans and students never have chance to really enjoy themselves through personal interests," said Hu Jianmin from Yangpu District Youth Science and Technology Station.
"The half-day fun activity every week often results in boring courses, and sometimes academic courses." Hu said.
