Expo's green pioneers
THREE Expo pavilions and 18 enterprises were honored yesterday for their contribution to the development of a green and low-carbon economy.
The Singapore, PICC and Vanke pavilions, and companies which included Broad Air Conditioning, General Motors and Coca-Cola, have been chosen as "green force pioneers," in a competition organized by a Beijing-based newspaper.
They won the title for projects such as water source protection and modernization which saved water and energy.
Energy-efficiency and a low-carbon economy should be a long-term target to achieve sustainable growth, said Zhou Hongchun, researcher of the Development Research Center of the State Council.
China has banned new coal-fired power plants in big cities, mandated desulfurizing equipment in power facilities, and restricted air polluting industries in cities, Zhou said.
