Extreme cyclist will attempt to scale skyscraper's steps

A POLISH extreme cyclist plans to climb the steps of Shanghai World Financial Center on Sunday, officials said yesterday.
Krystian Herba, 31, will ride his seat-less bicycle up 2,754 steps and 100 stories to the center's 474-meter high observatory. The skyscraper measures 492 meters. It is presently the city's tallest building, although Shanghai Tower will take over that status upon completion next year as it will be 632 meters.
Herba's hands and feet will not touch the ground during his ride, center officials said. He has already climbed seven skyscrapers around the world.
It took Herba 1 hour 13 minutes and 41 seconds to climb the Rose Rayhaan by Rotana in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in January 2012.
Meanwhile, the Kia World Extreme Games will be held in Shanghai from June 9-12, organizers said on Tuesday.
Formerly known as the Kia X-Games Asia, the event has added the FMX Step-up and Speed Climbing categories this year. The Aggressive In-Line, Skateboard and BMX Freestyle competitions will still be held. About 200 athletes from about 30 countries and regions will compete at the KIC Jiangwan Sports Center in Yangpu District for a total prize purse of US$260,000.
Tickets are 200 yuan (US$32.16) per day per person. Early bird tickets cost 60 yuan for students and 150 yuan for adults at www.gewara.com or by calling 4000-406-506.
