Face-lift set for shopping area

LOCALS will have more shopping opportunities around Huaihai Road in the future, as stores on small streets in the surrounding area are scheduled to be upgraded and restructured.

Domestic brands and local designers, who may have found the rents on Huaihai Road unaffordable, will be encouraged to move into stores on nearby roads including Maoming Road S., Sinan Road and Changle Road.

The area will be extended in-to a larger community, government officials said yesterday at the International Business Summit Forum being held in the city.

"We need to boost the area's interactive development," said Wen Zuliang, director of Luwan District government.

Songshan Road, which is close to luxury stores like Hermes and LV, is currently occupied by snack bars, such as a steamed bun stall and a beef store, and a garbage station, making the street unattractive.

Hotels, clothing stores and restaurants, matching the image of the international shopping street, will be moved in to replace the current ones.
