Families escape residential fire

FORTY-EIGHT families escaped a fire in a residential building in Shanghai early yesterday morning.
The fire engulfed the scaffolding outside the building, which was undergoing a face-lift from the ground floor to the sixth floor, witnesses said. Heavy smoke awoke residents and all the families were evacuated safely. No one was injured. More than 10 fire engines were sent to the site and the blaze was put out about 30 minutes later. The families were put up in a nearby hotel. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
