Financial training institute set to open
THE Pudong New Area government will launch a high-end financial training institute in Lujiazui area later this month as the city needs more top professionals in the sector, officials said yesterday.
Pudong Institute of Finance, a government-backed institute with classrooms in the Shanghai World Financial Center, has invited professors from Harvard Business School, Columbia Business School and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania to lecture local financial elites.
The Pudong government wants to continue attracting elite international professionals after the 2009 launch of Oracle Bay, a financial training center that is not linked to the Oracle software company.
"Oracle Bay tries to help new graduates and new-comers from the beginning, while our institute is focused on the continuous training needs of professionals," said Qian Gang, chief director of the new institute.
The institute, which is affiliated to Pudong New Area Financial Service Bureau in Lujiazui, is only open to business executives and senior government officials. All of the teachers will be from overseas institutes.
The first classes will begin on April 25 and will be taught in the China Executive Leadership Academy before the institute's classrooms are ready in the Shanghai World Financial Center later this year.
Expatriate business leaders are welcome to join the program and simultaneous interpretation services will be provided to Chinese speakers.
Oracle Bay, near Longyang Road, provides subsidized dorms for up to six months to students, interns and visiting consultants.
