Find a hazard, win prize ticket
FIND a hidden safety problem in your community, and you'll have the chance to win the Shanghai World Expo admission, local civil affairs authorities said yesterday.
People are encouraged to find things that would weaken the communities' ability to resist natural disaster such as typhoon, thunderstorm, rainstorm and frozen rain.
Other safety hazards, such as fire, gas, water and traffic problems, can also be reported, said the Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau yesterday.
People can go to the bureau's Website, www.shmzj.gov.cn, and fill in the form to report a problem. Only a Chinese version of the form is available. People are required to leave their true name and contact information to receive the award. Officials promised that they would never leak participants' personal information.
The award will be an Expo admission. Officials will give away 30,000-yuan (US$4,392) worth. Prizes will go to people who report important problems, officials said.
In turn, the bureau will report the hidden hazard for the relevant authorities to solve as soon as possible.
The activity is part of today's Disaster Prevention Day, established after the massive earthquake in Sichuan Province on May 12, 2008.
