Finland's rock ready for a blast
A HEAVY dose of music from Finland will rock Shanghai on May 27, Finland Pavilion Day. Different styles of music - heavy metal, jazz and electronic sounds - are expected to give visitors new impressions of the country's culture.
Finland people's infatuation with heavy metal music has pushed the genre into the mainstream, and all possible variations, from symphonic power metal to doom metal, are represented. Bands draw inspiration from the harsh wintery conditions, ancient Scandinavian myths and legends and stoic Finnish people.
At the Expo, the most successful Finnish heavy metal bands, such as Stratovarius, Turisas and Negative, will take turns to perform on the European Square in the afternoon.
Among them will be Negative which has won fans all around East Asia and toured China.
The three bands will hold another night show on May 26 at Mao Livehouse in Changning District, accompanied by the band Before the Dawn.
Visitors can check out why the electronic music is so hot on Finland's Pavilion day when DJ music will be available.
In the Culture center, traditional Finnish arts and culture will be displayed to visitors, including an acrobat show, folk music and dance. Inside the pavilion, Finnish artists will share their understanding of performing and innovation. The pavilion will be open from 9:30am to 10:30pm on the day.
Finland President Tarja Halonen will visit the Expo site on the day.
