Fire drama in Jinshan

A FIRE broke out at a plastics factory in Shanghai's suburban Jinshan District yesterday morning, causing thick black smoke to blanket a large area.

Dozens of fire trucks rushed to the scene and no injuries were reported, according to police.

The blaze started at the Shanghai Pallet Plastic Industry Co Ltd in the district's Tinglin Town at about 11:27am.

Thick black smoke engulfed the factory site before firefighters managed to put out the blaze in less than an hour, police said.

An initial investigation blamed the fire on malpractice by factory workers. Witnesses said black smoke spread throughout the area, reminding them of the November 15 Jiaozhou Road high-rise blaze in downtown Shanghai which claimed 58 lives.

The firm, established in 1999, produces different types of plastic tools.
