Fire near Bund kills 1, injures 2

ONE man was killed and two people injured yesterday after fire swept through a two-story building in Huangpu District.
The injured suffered burns and were in a stable condition in local hospitals, authorities said. The fire broke out at 5:30pm in an old residential area near the Bund. Flames were seen coming from the first floor, which was rented out as a small restaurant, a witness said. The fire soon spread to the second floor where a couple lived, neighbors said. "They kept yelling, 'help us, help us,'" said a witness. A woman climbed out of a window, while a man was carried out by firefighters. Another resident was also sent to hospital.
