Fire ruins Pudong warehouse

A cooking oil warehouse in Pudong New Area caught fire early this morning and hundreds of firefighters spent more than four hours extinguishing the blaze, fire control authorities said.

No one was hurt.

The fire broke out shortly before 5am in a warehouse owned by Yijia Logistics Company. Edible oil was being stored in the warehouse.

The storage house was almost completely engulfed in flames and heavy black smoke billowed from the building.

Fifty-two fire engines were dispatched to the site along with hundreds of firefighters, who spent four-and-a-half hours putting out the blaze, a fire control official surnamed Wang told Shanghai Daily.

Wang added that about three quarters of the warehouse was destroyed in the blaze.

The official also said they still don’t know what caused the fire.
