First affordable public yacht visiting, renting, sailing soon to be seen in town
The former ferry ports at the Shanghai World Expo 2010 site is reopened today with a major revamp to turn them into the city’s largest gathering of yacht ports. It will be open to the public to rent and visit after five years of it’s closing.
The six ports along the Huangpu River on both Pudong and Puxi to ferry Expo visitors was renovated to be able to berth a total of 100 yachts.
“The ports will become the city’s first to serve the public for renting, visiting and even sailing,” said Shen Bin, the general manager of Shanghai Expo Houtan Source Industrial Co. that takes charge of the post development of the Houtan Park area. He added that most
current yacht ports are only open to high-end memberships of various clubs.
Shen also stated that the ports aim to let the public know more about the yachts as the local residents are unfamiliar with them. Thus the price for renting will be affordable, about 2,000 to 5,000 yuan per hour for a yacht complete with sailors and captains.
Furthermore, the city government plans to build various ports along the Huangpu River to develop cruise liners and yacht industries, according to the city’s tourism development plan.
The Expo riverside on both banks of the river have a coast line of 8.2 kilometers with six ports built to ferry Expo visitors between the Pudong and Puxi sites during the Expo. They had been closed since the end of the fair in 2010.
Over 40 of the world’s luxury yachts are exhibited at one of the major ports near the former Africa Joint Pavilion today for a yacht festival that marked the reopening of the ports. Visitors can watch the yachts during the festival between July 8 and 12.
