Fish tonic opens at 1.5m yuan bid

LOCALS can bid to buy a piece of isinglass, or fish maw, of Chinese bahaba, rich in collagen and considered a tonic with lots of medicinal value among the Chinese, at an auction in Shanghai on Saturday.
It weighs 900 grams and is estimated at a market price of 3 million yuan (US$481,800). It will be auctioned at the Shanghai Everbright Convention and Exhibition Center, where the 7th Shanghai International Fisheries & Seafood Exposition is to be held. The starting price is 1.5 million yuan, the Shanghai Fisheries Association said. A Norway king crab of 5 kilograms and Japanese amberjack of 10kg also will be auctioned.
