Fishing boat from city with 7 aboard missing
THE search for a missing fishing boat with seven men aboard was ongoing overnight and will continue this morning if there are no results, according to Shanghai rescue authorities.
Rescue teams, who used a helicopter and ships to search parts of the East China Sea yesterday, expanded their search area late in the day.
Four of the missing are from Shanghai, officials said. The 17-meter-long wooden boat left a port in Nanhui in eastern Shanghai early Sunday morning and was scheduled to be back in the afternoon but never returned.
The boat, based at the port, could not be reached by cellphone or walkie-talkie after it didn't show up.
Weather and water conditions on Sunday morning were relatively good, said maritime officials, while the winds got stronger at night.
A cousin of one of the missing crew said his brother is "unlucky as he was summoned to the boat that day as a temporary helper."
