Five-year-old in river tragedy

A FIVE-year-old boy died yesterday after slipping into a watercourse near the entrance of the Xiangyin Road Tunnel in Yangpu District.
The accident happened at 9:55am when Hu Zhong, an egg-seller, was buying eggs from a wholesaler at the intersection of Jungong Road and Xiangyin Road. The boy, who had been with his father, went missing and was found in a watercourse 20 meters away by emergency services. The boy was finally pronounced dead at noon, despite rescue efforts at Changhai Hospital.
